Holy Squirrels!

So, some of you may know that I feed the squirrels in my back yard...

We ran out of the one style of food and the store ran out too, so we resorted to a new style to see how it worked...
 It's HUGE!
The squirrels were a little hesitant at first, you could imagine them thinking is it real?
Trying to figure out how to attack it best, this one was the first triumphant feeder.
However the other squirrel here didn't notice it right away and was trying to contemplate how he could sneak in for a piece of the new treat...
 This attempt didn't work...
Nor did the playing it cool... He ended up being chased off shortly after this. A regular old scene out of Sword & the Stone!
 I think they like it...
 A LOT!
We put it up Thursday afternoon. This was the scene Friday when I got home...
Along with the mess on the ground...
But along with the squirrels we're seeing more and more birds. We've seen several cardinals, blue jays, a nuthatch, and these:
I'm not sure what they are but we have a ton of them around. Their eyes creep me out - they're yellow!
 This was late Friday afternoon...
And this was the mess on the ground.
And this was 11 o'clock Saturday morning. 100% Completely clean. By Saturday morning when we woke up the mess on the ground was gone and there was only about half of the "block" left. Later that morning it was gone.

Now it's still empty and the squirrels are scrounging around looking for any last tiny morsel and when they don't find them the sit and stare in the windows at us and flick their tales letting us know they're not happy. It cracks me up.

I think we're going to have to get more creative with our feeder(s). I'll keep you posted on the latest!

  1. The birds look like grackles. They used to hang out at our feeder years ago where we lived before. They would chase away all the other birds and not let them eat. Their eyes do look a bit evil, don't they?
