GIVEAWAY - The Snowed In Kind...

this giveaway is now closed, but come back again. I'm sure there will be more :)

IT'S GIVEAWAY DAY!!!

Earlier this week, our neck of the woods was under a horrible snow warning for DAYS!!! They were calling for everyone in the viewing area of the local news channels to get at least 8" of snow and the Snowbelt (which I live in the secondary Snowbelt, but work in the primary) could get 1'-2' within about 36 hours.

And it wasn't going to be just the nice pretty stuff, oh no. What they were calling for was the heavy monster stuff that collapses a roof or two and makes driving absolutely treacherous.

Thankfully we got a whopping 4" and so did the town I work in, however people a bit further south got a foot plus. Didn't turn out to be so bad, but it got me thinking...

Even though it wasn't that bad, what would you need to suffice while being snowed in?
I think I have you covered! There's a bit of everything...
First off I'm giving away this Moda apron I've acquired. It's quite darling if I do say so myself. This way if you feel the need to bake since you have a bit of extra time on your hands, you won't end up looking like the evil flour monster (or is it just me that makes a mess in the kitchen?)
However, if your form of baking is more up the ally of the Moda Bake Shop, I have this wonderful jelly roll of Twirl by Me and My Sister. I picked this for a couple reasons. First off, from about now til May here there is NO color outside, just gray and white really - more gray than anything, so some color is good. Secondly, if you have a jelly roll while snowed in you'll be preoccupied quilting for a possible extended length of time that the laundry and cleaning and all that might have to be put aside for a bit. If I only gave you a Charm Pack, after a few hours the quilting fun might be over!!! Oh no, the calamity!!! So, you get a jelly roll!
Honestly, some warm fuzzy socks. Do I really need to explain? Let's just say if my feet are cold the rest of me is cold. If I am cold I get cranky. Notice a trend here? Plus they're bright and fun!
Now, I need noise all day long. Mostly in the form of music or the TV, so how about you get yourself some tunes off iTunes to jam to while you're quilting?
And you just can't quilt all day without some snacks. So how about a bag of the good ol' Pop Secret.
The best kind there is, Homestyle of course!
And what would your day be like without some chocolate? And emergency chocolate at that. It says so right on the package!

So there's the prizes up for grabs. One lucky person will win it all. How to enter you ask?

Leave me a comment on if you were snowed in what you would do. And please if you live somewhere where the coldest temperature you get is like 50, please humor me. It's been around the mid 20's this week with wind chills in the single digits. I'm freezing here! So if you could kindly play along and let me know what you would do with your time at home, I can't wait to read about it!

Now remember to be honest, but a little creativity never hurt. I'll be drawing a winner on Monday the 9th!

Please also remember to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you when you win!!!

I'll be back later with an update of what I accomplished these last few days since I was snowed in (okay really it was just too dang cold to go outside...) and be on the lookout on Saturday - it'll be Moda Bake Shop day!!!

Now, ready, set, comment!

  1. what a nice giveaway! I would sew sew sew of course! Stitch that lovely jelly roll into a darling quilt top (maybe a jelly roll race quilt so I could get it done FAST!) then I think I would decorate that moda apron, some fancy embroidery maybe, a snazzy ruffle... ellynz@sbcglobal.net

  2. I'll look forward to your Moda Bake Shop Day! I would first have to get out and play in the snow. Then I would get those yummy warm socks on, load up some great tunes, mix up a batch of crackle cookie dough while wearing the apron of course! While the dough is chillin' I'd unwrap that cute jelly roll and stitch until I was completely famished then stop for the popcorn, chocolate and cookies! Come on Snow Day!

  3. What a perfectly lovely bunch of goodies to spend an unexpected day snowed in at home with! We have been snowed in many times, what with living in New England and all! It can be quite fun if you have the right attitude. First, a fire in the fireplace is a must. Then all the blankets come out onto the floor in front of the fire. Then the dolls, books, games, lego sets, hot chocolate, all the fun stuff for a fun day of being cozy! If we have power, then I might even spend part of the day down in my sewing room. If we don't, then the whole day is spent near the fire playing with the kids and being thankful that we have a sturdy house to keep us safe, and good snow shovels to dig us out!

  4. Well, living in the Icebox of the Nation of International Falls, MN we know what it's like to be snowed in for sure! Being a quilter of course I would sew and watch a favorite movie snuggled up with my puppies, Tinker & Toby!

  5. For me, being snowed in would mean cuddling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate/tea/coffee and a good book. When I finish the book I would pick up a cross stitch project and stitch until my heart was content. Seeing that being snowed in would involve a few days (we don't get much snow here and we practically shut down), I would then head upstairs to my craft room and break out a quilitng project. Maybe I would actually be able to finish a quilt that I could then snuggle under with my Hubby and our pup.

  8. I live in warmer climates now, but for many years I lived in the Catskill Mts., and my daughter with 2 tiny children lived on top of a mountain. When we heard about a bad snowstorm coming, she would pack up the little ones and head to our house, where we had a "snow party" for the duration, sharing meals, and playing with the kids and the cats!

  9. If I was snowed in, I would make cinnamon rolls, stay in jammies all day, read a good book and then do some quilting.

  10. I feel snowed in all winter. I hate to go outside in the cold, so I am pretty much home bound. I peruse pinterest and blogs, read and quilt. I have been thinking of buying a treadle sewing machine in case we lose power.

  11. I love snow days. I loved them when I was younger and going to school. I love them now because I have worked for a school district for the past twenty years and get so excited when I hear on the radio that school has been canceled for the day. The first thing I do is make supper in the crockpot. Yeah, it is 8:00 in the morning and I am making supper. Then I am off to my sewing room. I can get so much quilting done on a snow day because I did not have time to plan what I wanted to get done. Last winter we had three snow days in a row. It was fantastic!! Thanks for the perfect snow day giveaway!

  12. I live in Ohio too........and hate the coooooold and snow. :) My kids always say "You live in the wrong State Mom!" lol I hibernate all I can thru the winter...which seems to last 7 months, at least! :O BRRRRRRRRR!!!

If snowed in for few days, I'd sew some, crochet some, make a crockpot of yummy soup......and stay close to the woodstove for sure!! :)

    Thanks for chance to win!!

  13. I've seen snow maybe 3 days in my life down here in Houston :) BUUUTTT if I were in, say MN, and got snowed in, I'd put a pot of lentil soup to cook, curl up on the couch with my kitten under a snuggly quilt (or 2!) and watch a series on DVD. I have Mad Men seasons 1-3 I got for Christmas to start with. If my fingers are working, maybe an appliqué or redwork blocks.
Then again, I'd do this for days in the 30's, nevermind actual snow! This is a fabulous giveaway idea :)

  14. I start off almost every cold day with hot chocolate. I usually sew in the mornings before distractions take up my day. By afternoon I'll probably be baking cookies. I love to bake when it's cold out so that I can stay warm by the oven.

  15. We do get snowed in here most winters. I don't mind it so much anymore and just hunker down in my sewing room. :)

You have a fabulous giveaway package! So fun to read your blog. :)

  16. When I first moved down to eastern North Carolina, we had a huge snowstorm - something that rarely ever happens here. Luckily our power stayed on, so I made homemade soup everyday for a week. Filled up the freezer. Wasn't sewing back then. Today I'd try to finish as many UFOs as I could. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  17. Living in a valley in western Montana, getting snowed in is a real possibility (not this year however, as we have virtually NO snow). BUT, when that happens, the power usually goes out too. Wood stove for heat thankfully, Coleman lanterns and a propane cookstove solve most immediate problems. Usually I give up and read or sleep, but I recently got some gorgeous redwork kits with preprinted fabric, so I would crouch by a window & stitch!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hmmmmm....this will take some thinking. I live in Texas....grin. Put a fake log in the fireplace and have a cup of cocoa. Then I would sleep till my heart is content and sew, sew, sew.

  19. Well, I can only wish for a snow day. Even though I live in Alaska I have never had one. Sadness. If we get two feet of snow you are expected to clean it up and get on with it.
IF I had a snow day, I would sleep in, then have a yummy breakfast. After I snowblowed the driveway I would come inside and sew while I had some nice hot chocolate.
Then I would pray for it to stop snowing so I wouldn't have to move any more snow!

  20. This is a new predicament for me. I'm from California am now experiencing my first winter in Idaho...and I'm cold all the time. I need to make more quilts to keep myself warm. I made a list of two pages worth of kid activities we could do together in the event of being snowed in, but usually I bake things...and then eat them because I have nowhere to go. Then I quilt, and take naps with my 2 year old, and play too much Mario Kart. And eat and eat and eat.

I also recently acquired some excellent hot chocolate, so that's been added to the wintertime rotation too.

Wishing you a winter of warm feet!!

  21. Hi, I love this post. I am from WI where we are used to alot of snow, but I moved to Indiana where more than a little snow is too much. I am a teacher and Last year we not only had FOUR snow days in a row but were also Iced in. This is when I really started to quilt and it has since taken over my life. IN thouse four days pieced f-5 quilt tops. I now love snow days or the throught of them to use for quilting. But I do agree that after a little awile it does get tedious. I think your snow day kit is perfect it fits all a persons needs when snowed in. Also I am so glad I found your blog. I can't wait to go through the whole thing. Thanks again.

  22. I wish at this point I could get snowed in. I live in Utah and I actuly had to take the coat off today was too hot walking from work to the car.

Ok if I got snowed in I would sit back and rest. No work would be great. Wait I am a programmer by trade and its something I can work from home. So we would need alot of snow. Something that would shut down the whole city and take out the phones and internet.

Ok now that we have enough snow I would sit down and make a quilt. I have been quilting for less then 2 months and finished my 2nd quilt though I have about a dozen ive bought materials for. I am a guy and as such I was never taught as a child to quilt but have decided its a wonderful thing to do. So I would take the time to make me a quilt since the first 2 made were for kids I totaly deserver a quilt and with enough snow out side to close the city so I can take a day off work I will defently need that quilt to keep warm.

    Thanks

  23. We don't often have snow days as we live on a small island and the sea air moderates the weather. However over the last week shelves in the supermarkets have been a bit bare as supplies haven't come in by boat as the sea has been very rough.

I'd light the fire in the lounge and move my sewing machine and ironing board into the loungs and sew. The kids can play outside and I'll stay warm inside.

  24. WE had severe snow last year caused chaos! I'd crank up the heating in my studio, shut the world out, and sew in the snow of course! Got to make the most of an opportunity like that :) Great giveaway, thank you :)

  25. First, I am now "following" your blog 'cause it looks like a good one! Second, last year I got snowed in - repeatedly. Thankfully, the power remained on so I did what I do whenever I have a lot of time on my hands and no place to go - sew! If I got snowed in today I would throw together the starter for some artisan bread, put some laundry in the washer and then sew the day away.
Thanks for the opportunity to win!!

  26. Living on a small island 9 x 5 miles we very rare get snow, on occasions when we did you can imagine, everything comes to a standstill. It is just off the coast of France - Jersey. Love your blog and now a follower.

  27. If I were snowed in, I would definitely spend the day and night, of course, sewing, sewing, sewing! Or as my 6 year old grandaughter says, "Sowe it, grandma, sowe it!". That's what we both like to do together. Snow or sun.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is a lot of snow. I live in upstate NY and we have yet to get any other than a couple of light dustings. But I know that it is coming at some point. If I had a snow day, I would love to spend it all day in my studio sewing. I have a number of quilts in progress that will be gifts and I would love to get them actually done. But, and that is a huge but, if my kiddos are home too (thye are 3 and 5) they would put a dent in that plan. I'd probably end up playing with the Hot Wheels, Candy Land, the stickers and markers and the Play Doh. All not horrible things to do on a snow day but certainly not what I'd prefer to do.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It doesn't take a lot for the snow to cause chaos in the UK. As I can work from home I would probably have to log on as normal. Sad fce. But if I could avoid that then I could do with a few extra days to catch up on all the projects I'm gedtting behind on! I love your idea for a giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  30. We haven't much so far this winter and I am really glad. I would turn the fireplace on, an ice tea, and sit in my chair and hand sitich binding on a quilt. When that was done I would sew, sew, sew.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Living up here in Maine we can get a lot of snowed in days, even in the spring! Of course I would sew! But I also like to play board games with my kiddos, snuggle in bed and read a good book while the kids watch a Disney movie that I have probably have watch a 1000 times.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If the power is on so would my sewing machine be! However, if the power is off, but my iPad still has juice I'd probably be curled up in a quilt reading... :) Thanks for the chance to win!

  33. This weekend is going to be weird - yesterday we went into the 60s and will be in the mid to high 50s for the rest of the week. Prior to that it was below freezing. I am in TN. It snowed twice before Thanksgiving - just a dusting but we were still in autumn. I just love to sew, stitch, read or watch TV when I have a snow day with hot chocolate or a great cup of tea and homemade soup. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  34. First I'd sleep in!!! Second, I'd sit around in my jammies, sipping coffee & looking out the window at the snow. Third I'd do what I have to do - SHOVEL!!! Then I'd come in, take a hot shower & SEW!!!!!!!!

  35. I live in SE Tenn so a snow day is rare. I think the best part of a stuck at home snow day would be the freedom to sew all day without the nagging feeling that I should be getting some real work done. Of course, there would still be the nagging feeling that I should be straightening up the sewing room. The remnants of those last few projects really do need to be put away. Thanks for the giveaway chance and your zig and zag moda quilt is beautiful. I may need to try that one. duvitoo@yahoo.com

  36. We live in Alabama and we get snow occasionally but not very often. It's always fun to have a snow day. I love to read or surf the internet if we have electricity.
I made homemade soup and homemade chili yesterday to put in the freezer for colder days. It's in the 50's today so I'll save it for colder days. They will come.
Your tutorials were wonderful and I even think I may be able to do that pattern.

    Thanks so much for sharing.

  37. How fun, I just ordered some twirl, this would compliment it nicely. I grew up in Rochester when snow was fun, now that I live in the south, they don't get as much, but still usually once a winter which is enough for me. When we do get bad weather, the city shuts down and everyone enjoys it! Thanks for sharing! Hope you warm up soon!

  38. Fun giveaway! I would bake up a yummy treat and work on some of the zillion unfinished projects I have!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I hibernate in the cold. I'd definitely put on my warmest sweats and socks. There would be lots of hot coffee followed by hot peppermint tea. I'd probably make a nest on our sofa, get the fire in the fireplace roaring, wrap myself and my dog in a warm quilt or two and settle down with a good book. I'd convince DH to put a chicken/sausage gumbo cooking on our gas stove. If we were snowed in for more than one day, I'd add some baking and hand sewing to the mix:)

Awesome giveaway!!! Thanks so much for sharing! I love all the items. Have a great weekend!

  40. I have experienced many "snow days" and would probably spend it in front of my sewing machine on one of my many UFO's during the day, make a great pot of homemade soup for supper and spend the evening with hubby and a counted cross stitch project. When the kids were still around, we would spend it playing games on the floor in front of the fireplace, in between trips outside to play in the snow. Love the mini-quilt, perfect for the dining room table, hmmm, maybe I would work on that. Thanks for the recipes.

  41. We live in SW Florida so no snow days but we have had hurricane days lol. For a snow day I think I would have a nice fire in the fireplace. I'm going to pretend that the power went out or at least the internet and cable. The kids and I would make cocoa and popcorn to snack on while we played board games. We don't get to play as often as we should. I know we would be laughing and having all kinds of fun not long after we start playing.

If we have power and internet? I would be wrapped up in a cozy quilt and doing some crocheting, embroidery, or hand sewing.

  42. If I was snowed in (I am in AZ and we have been in the beautiful 70's! don't throw a rock at me! lol) I would make some homemade hot chocolate to start the morning off with my family, make a pot of potato soup early on so I could sew the rest of the day!
Thanks for your tutorial, I LOVE it!
thanks for the chance at the giveaway too!
    Keep warm!

  44. What a fun giveaway! I love the creativity of the question!

I live in Iowa so we certainly have snow days. My family and I usually have a party day. We get on comfy clothes like sweatpants and the like. Then we watch movies play games and just hang out. There is usually hot chocolate involved (made with milk not water so it's nice and creamy). For dinner we ALWAYS have an indoor picnic. We put down a picnic blanket in our family room then we eat something like homemade calzones while we watch Netflix streaming. It almost makes you want a snow day right now doesn't it! After they all go to bed I usually get on some crafty project, like quilting, crocheting, or scrapbooking and unwind from a day with four kids six and under.

"Snowed" in is not an option for us who live in the North - Currently, there's snow shoveled almost as high as me in the drive way! But - if it was a -40 day .... I like to put on the warmest PJs, fuzzy socks, grab coffee and baileys and snuggle in the basement near the fireplace and watch movies ... Cause there's not a whole lot you can do out in -40. :)

  48. I live in Texas and we usually get snowed or iced in at least one day each school year 72 today 22 tomorrow such is life. I teach so the first thing I would do (after having a morning cup of coffee and a good read for half hour or so)is pack up my supply of Boroax and other needed items to make a snowflake when we get back to school...life is about teachable moments. I would let my dog play in the snow and then I would sew because there are sew many quilts to make and sew little time. (-:
Twirl would make wonderful quilts for my granddaughters 4yrs and 3 mos. Two From One Jelly Roll Quilts is a great book. Thank you for the give away and your Moda tutorial as well!

  50. Minnesnowta, up until this year we have usually more than we want to handle, thanking our lucky
northern stars, but the snow will come and when
it does, after we clear the driveway and make
a snowman if it ends up being the wet sticky stuff, then it is time to make some ham and cheese potatoe soup, with homemade buns. Then off to work on some ufo quilting projects, and
then snuggle under a project that needs binding.
Your giveaway fills in all the extras to make
it such a cozy day. Thanks for the great patterns and the giveaway. Happy Winter can
    Spring be far behind!

  53. Hello from Moda Bakeshop...love your tutorial. And I'm a new follower too.

If I were snowed in, which actually happens a lot, since I live on the top of a hill in NY State...and it's a private road that has to be plowed...I would enjoy the day with my children.

First, we would be lazy and do just about nothing. Then, we'd bundle up in our snow gear and head outside. If the snow was nice and packy...we'd build a GIANT snowman. Then we'd go sledding. Just about the time we couldn't feel our fingers or toes, we'd head inside, dump our wet gear and gather around the table for a cup of Hot Chocolate. Add a peppermint candy cane from Christmas leftovers and we're good to go!

Thanks for a chance to win your lovely giveaway. I've never had a jelly roll or honey bun ever, so I'd love to play with one. =)

  55. First of all, there's been virtually no snow where I live in Michigan; unheard of for this time of year. I think I act as if I'm snowed in all the time! I bake, I sew, I knit, I read. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I grew up in the snow belt territory of Upstate New York, so we had a few fun snow-ins. We loved reading by lantern cuddled up in blankets. We also used to make an igloo with all of the snow on our back porch - tons of fun!

  57. Well, I have moved from balmy Georgia to the snowy, mountain forests of Pennsylvania, so I am having to adjust to the inevitability of being "snowed-in". In Georgia, we literally cancelled school on the forecast of snow! Once the white fluffy stuff envelopes the house, I would settle in with a roaring fire to knit and read and eat lots of comfort food. Assuming we still had power, I would certainly fire up the sewing machine and create a wonderful keepsake from the blizzard of 2012!! Thanks for the chance to win such an awesome prize pack!

  58. Snowed in WITH or WITHOUT electricity is a factor - with power would entail lots of Wii with the 6 year old to keep warm and active - and some sewing if I could sneak it in. WITHOUT would be lots of books snuggled under piles of quilts, drawing, playing games and figuring out if we could brave the snow for some outside time.

  59. Hello, First of all I live in northern California, the wine country. Never had a snow day here, but if I did it would be pajama, hot chocolate, homemade cinnamon rolls day! Then some quilting of course, looking out my window and just being thankful i am indoors! Love the giveaway! Tricia

  60. I'd be shut up in my sewing room with the portable heater to keep cozy. The two cats would be there with me. I would also have a BIG mug of cocoa, and there would be a yummy soup simmering in the crockpot. I would spend the day piecing, and reading a romance novel. If DH were home, he would be there, too, in my recliner with a book and a cat!

  61. I'd turn on the fake fireplace, snuggle up with the pups and go on a tv marathon for at least half the day. Then I'd get bored and pick up whatever quilting project I have going on at the time, and probably stay up way too late finishing it.

  67. I'm in Arizona, so while we don't get snowed in in the wintertime, we DO often find ourselves housebound in the summer when it's 115 outside. All the same rules apply - you spend as little time as possible outdoors, kids go stir crazy because you can't let them out either, etc, etc. So, what do I do when housebound? I'd love to be housebound because of cold, because all the comments above involving cocoa, popcorn, and a good book/movie sound perfect. But I always find myself in my sewing studio eventually. If this happened today? It would be major WIP progress day. :)

  68. When we have been snowed in- and it has happened annually- I love to bake and sew. I live in the Chicago area and we are experiencing record highs, but we can be hit hard at any moment. Last year we had a storm that paralyzed the entire city.

  69. I love snow days when everybody gets to stay home. We get to sleep in, drink hot chocolate and eat grilled cheese sandwiches.

  70. I think if I was snowed in I'd take that time to re-organize my fabric while sipping hot cocoa and thinking I was getting something done when in reality I was really just looking at all the pretty fabric I've accumulated over time. ;) Oh, I'm visiting here from the Moda Bake Shop, you've got a fun little blog. :)

  71. I live in Las Vegas, so you know I never get snowed in. It did snow here a couple of years ago, and we all stayed inside because no one here knows (or remembers) how to drive in it. Sounds to me like a perfect day to have a cup of hot chocolate and curl up with some hand sewing. Aaah.

  72. It would be a miracle! I live in southern California. I have an emergency kit for earthquakes and I think I need a kit in case it snows. One day it did snow and someone built a little snowman on the corner. So, you never know...

  73. I love being snowed in--it is such a good reason to cuddle up with a blankie, start up the fireplace, and have a cup of hot cocoa. I love the new white snow that hasn't gotten churned up yet and turned into snirt-snow/dirt yet. And if it is still coming down I don't have to nag Hubby to get out the snow shovel. The mess comes when it stops snowing and the digging out starts--but I can enjoy it while it lasts.

  74. What a fun giveaway!
No snow in my part of the UK yet but I'd like to be ready!
If I'm snowed in I'll be sewing and baking - not at the same time you understand!!!!

  75. Thanks for the generous giveaway! Yummy emergency chocolate, not sure how it will taste :) I'm from a country that No Snowing since I'm born. I can't imagine how cold you are facing now, but frankly speaking, I can't live in a cold country. I will freezing to death. Haha...

  76. I havent been snowed in quite yet, but I'm so looking forward to it so that I can quilt without guilt that I should be out enjoying these 60 degree days in January. If the snow was piling and the wind was howling and the radiators were steaming to keep up, I would be wrapped in a quilt, making a quilt to make me think of warmer, prettier, sunnier times. Maybe I had better beef up my stash so that I don't run out of quiltable fabrics on my 'snow day'. Penguinofsorts@gmail.com

  78. What a cute giveaway! We haven't had much snow this year. However, we had a storm in October that knocked out power for ten days. That was interesting. Last winter, we had storm after storm including a whole week off from school because we'd just get cleaned up from one and get another. My favorite thing to do it bake when it snows. I enjoy sewing too, but I'm on entertainment duty if it is a snow day

    ReplyDelete
  79. If it snows more than an inch where I live the power goes out and everything closes. I would put a big pot of something yummy on the gas stove and bundle up with some handwork and my led headlight.

  80. I'm one of those "lucky" girls that rarely, if ever, gets snow; but when it does snow, the whole region shuts down for a day or so!

If I were lucky enough to get shut in for a day or so, I would DEFINITELY get some quilting done and try to work on whittling down my stack of precuts!

Thanks for the giveaway! Keeping my fingers crossed!

  81. Greetings from The Great Land, where it's snowing and blowing and 11 degrees - we're having a "heat wave" - lol! It stopped snowing enough yesterday to let me bring in a "new" antique piano I just bought - only got the truck stuck once on our property and used the neighbor's excavator to push the truck to the house - lololol! Anyway, I certainly sew at this time of year - now I can play the piano at the sewing breaks! Thanks for the wonderful tutorials on a great quilt, and thanks for a fun giveaway!!

  82. You've absolutely thought of everything. We had a major snowstorm a Halloween weekend, but not a flake since. That's really unusual for the area of New York where I live. We had a major snowstorm last year around Christmas and things were a mess for days. When we are snowed in, we stoke up the wood burning stove, make hot chocolate and brownies and play board games. My children (23 and 26) are currently living at home and they are both game fans. There is always handwork for me to do (quilt bindings, embroidery, crochet) so I manage to keep busy. It's an unseasonably warm 50 degrees here today, but the bad weather is sure to come.

  83. Well Iowa has been TOTALLY surprising this winter...no snow. If I were snowed in, I'd quilt. If we lost power, I'd cut out quilts....or "crank up the treadle" I love snow days...read and book, hang out with the kiddos. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I do live in one of those...hardly ever see it below 30 degrees. However, I have also lived where it gets pretty cold too. I love those days because we snuggle up with a little hot chocolate and watch a good movie. But, I love spending time quilting too...kind of sad I don't see most of my quilts around here. I ship them off to family who live in colder neighborhoods. :). Thanks for the chance to win! I love everything Moda! Wanoniem(at)yahoo(dot)com

  86. Well, where I live now (VA) does not get terribly cold, but I grew up in Fargo, so I know cold! If we were to get snowed in (which does happen here occaisonally) I would probably bake lots of cookies with my three girls and drink lots of hot cocoa, after we made the mix ourselves (my girls love making things!) I would love to quilt all day, but with an 18 month old, that would not be happening! Maybe when the wind whips up in the evening and the kiddies are all tucked in bed!

  87. I grew up in MN where we loved to get snowed in...no school...battle the 'blizzard' (we lived in town where the conditions were mild compared to out in the country!) and cross the road to my best friend's house. They had a fireplace!

Nope, today IF we get snowed in--in the greater Seattle area that means it snows two inches and the whole Pacific NW comes to a dead stop--we usually will go outside and play in the snow, then come in and watch dvds. My choice right now would be Pride and Prejudice...the six hour version!

  88. Oh to be snowed in and just sew till I had used up all my stash!!!! Probably get sick of snow way sooner than my stash would be depleted! LOL The Twirl line is my favorite right now. 90. Funny I should come across this contest today. Currently it is howling outside and snow is falling along with it. It's not all that cold (-1 celcius) but the wind and snow make it miserable. I certainly do not want to go out. So on a day like today I hide in my sewing room and put on my iPod to listen to an audiobook. At some point I will stop all the creativity and take a nice loooong soak in a nice hoooot bubble bath. THAT is the winter "snowed in" day that I love.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Sitting here (in a very brown S.E. corner of MN) I can only say....any excuse to 'lost' at the sewing machine!! This being my first winter of retirement, I had thought about how nice it will be to not do the drive thing in a snow storm but, wouldn't ya just know it, hasn't happened......yet!!!! Can live with "brown" but I know the "other shoe WILL drop"..LOL! Thanks for the awesome 'cabin fever give-away'! Doreen

  92. Really looked forward to "snowed in" days when we lived in Upstate NY! A fire in the fireplace, no school for the kids, and lots of time to enjoy the family were memorable. After living in S. FL for 30 years I still miss those times and the beautiful snow scenes outside (as long as I didn't have to shovel)! If I were to experience a snow day now, I KNOW I would use it to sew, sew, sew!! Great giveaway! Believe it or not, cozy warm socks come in handy during chilly South Florida weather!

  93. After sleeping in, I'd put on my warm fuzzy socks and, assuming my husband had a snow day as well, I'd waste a couple hours watching him try to play the new Zelda game. I'd waste a couple more watching him be frustrated with the video game while eating popcorn. Eventually, I'll get frustrated also and leave the room to plan this new quilt I'm going to make with a super cute jelly roll I just won in a drawing while drowning out aforementioned husband's shouts of frustrations with the new $15 worth of music I just bought. I'd make my husband wear the moda apron of course and make me some dinner; heaven knows he needs a break from what he's been doing. I guess I'd share the chocolate bar with him ; ) Amber (ambereden14@yahoo.com)

  94. What a fun giveaway and I LOVE Me and My Sister fabrics so I'd love this for sure. And woohoooooo emergency chocolate is always a good thing although I tend to have an emergency daily so it might not last too long. There's no rules on what constitutes an emergency needing to break into that chocolate.....right? LOL

HA. I had to laugh at the comment about anyone who never sees much below 50 as their low temps. Here in Northern Il we definitely get cold with many winters seeing tons of snow and I remember more than I'd like of temps nearing a negative 25 degrees with a wind chill much colder. Thankfully those temps don't come every winter. This winter however, we have had a whopping ONE INCH of snow. Very strange but I can't say as I'm complaining that's for sure.

Now.....you want to know what I'd do on a snowday.....my first question would be Did the snow knock out the power? LOL If yes, then I'd be learning to use the hexie templates I bought and haven't touched yet given the lack of power. If we still had power, then I'm going to be sewing on my machine, probably making baby stuff since we're going to be welcoming our 3rd grandchild next month.

This would be a nice birthday gift for me too since my birthday is next Tuesday. :)

  95. Love your giveaway goodies! Normally. We don't get a lot of snow here in southern NJ, but last year & the year before were inundated. So far this year, so good. When I am locked in though, I like to cuddle up with a good book, something yummy to eat, smug of creamy hot chocolate piled with whipped cream, & my furbabies all around!

  96. Hmm, what would I do?... Well, since we have 7 children and they are home schooled, we'd probably just go about our day as usual. But if the teacher was feeling a little burned out ( or tired or lazy, take your pick! :) ), we'd have a "snow day", in which the children would play all day and so would I! There are always WIPs going on to choose from, right?! :)

  104. Snowed in? Not so far this year, we are getting our March weather now, so you know what that means...snow in March! So when that happens I will re-read my favorite novels and eat warm chocolate chip cookies that my family is making...or the homemade bread they are making (ha-ha).

  107. I one lived in northern Maine and know all about being snowed in! Best times ever! My husband and I would snowshoe over to my neighbors house and we would all hang out, baking, drinking and watching videos! I had some seriously great neighbors, funny thing was, they were from texas! They were so great, they once shoveled out my driveway when I was out of state, so we could return home! It was a two foot snowstorm, that they dug us out!

  108. Living in FL, we can only wish for snow days. If we were so lucky, I'd bake, sew, and convert one of our closets into a sewing area with lots of shelves for stash storage and a space for my sewing machine to live. Maybe I'll save that last idea for our next hurricane day instead. :)

I live in Michigan and we should be knee deep in snow but we have had sunny weather the last 3 days with temps in the upper 40's to the mid 50's....I luv the no snow winters but if I were to be snowed in I would be in my sewing room all day....most likely in my pj's. I might come up to bake some oatmeal raisin cookies or banana bread if the bananas are right for backing. I am a new follower....luv your 'You zig I'll zag' quilt featured on the Moda Bake shop. Thanks for the chance to win. Pauline

  110. If I were snowed in, I'd hope my hubby was with me and we would put a big pot of soup on to simmer, make some fresh-baked bread, curl up under a quilt on the couch and watch a silly movie! I'd also be quite happy for a day in the shop (his woodworking shop is currently in the basement and my sewing room is on the second floor), but the pot of soup and fresh-baked bread is consistent. :)

  111. Just have to chime in from rural Alaska! We are have a "real" winter with lots of snow, winds causing drifts, and cold temps. If snowed in, I'd cook a yummy soup, keep filling up the wood stove, and work on a quilting project. But, darn, the plow truck keeps on plowing! ;>)

  112. Snowed in I would sew or play xbox with my grandson. Learning to play "Lego Pirates of the Caribbean"at 47 with a 6 year old can be more challenging than a hard quilt block. Because if I am snoed in so is he, I get sewing time but he gets playtime with Nana, a fun tradeoff. Thank you for the giveaway and I really like your quilt at the bakeshop. Comlisajohnson@gmail.com

  113. Typically I'd be seriously considering what to do with a snow day but the jet stream has taken care of that and we are having unseasonably warm temps - like 10-40 degrees above normal -- here in Fargo (ND)/Moorhead (MN). Last week we broke an all-time record (150 years or so -- since records have been tracked) for January - nearly 25 degrees above previous high mark from 1940's -- we got to 54 degrees.
My snow day is dedicated to becoming friends with a UFO project or cleaning my sewing room. I need a 3-day storm!!

Brrrrr, if I were to be snowed in I would, after stoking the fire with a large tea pot of water on the stove to keep some humidity in the air, I'd clean up my sewing area which is a disaster after Christmas and then I would get down to sewing. I'd take a break by pushing all the furniture to the walls so I could dance to i-Tunes with my dogs. We'd then pop up the popcorn and the dogs and I would share by seeing who was the best popcorn catcher. I'd have the chocolate all to myself.

  117. I used to love being snowed in ~ that meant a day off work! First thing I'd do is grab some coffee with Bailey's creamer and catch up on the quilting blogs that inspire me. Second ~ I'd settle in with a blankie and watch two (maybe three) Johnny Depp movies. (Chocolat, anyone?) Third ~ I'd make myself a big bowl of pasta. All in my jammies, of course! 126. I live in Wisconsin, and we have had an unusually warm winter. There were some die hard golfers out last Thursday when the temperature reached 53 degrees! Normally by now we have had several inches of snow - it's only a matter of time until we get dumped on. A snow day calls for a pot of chili and a movie and sitting down with some hand quilting that will keep me warm, 'cuz I'm always cold. Your give away is awesome - I've never done anything with a jelly roll. Looks like fun! Your quilt has easy to follow directions, good for a not-so-experienced quilter like myself. Thanks!

  129. Snowed in? Happened last winter matter of fact. First off cleared a path so my poor Basset hound could go outside. He did NOT like that he couldn't see over the top of the snow drifts! Next settled in with my trusty Bernina and worked on a Valentines' day themed raffle quilt. A co-worker had experienced a health crisis, and a group of us want to raise some extra funds for her. Also read a bit, and took a wickedly delicious afternoon nap. Wouldn't mind having another one of those type days in the near future. L Hood (rebusrebus@verizon.net)

Between going out to shovel so that our dog had a place to do her "business" I spent time reading, cooking, playing on the computer and hand quilting. 133. Wow! I live in South Texas, and get very little snow, cannot get snowed in to save my life!! However, we do get "flooded in", that is when the streets all around us flood and we can't go anywhere... does that qualify?? Sometimes it is cold, sometimes mid-summer, happens all year round! There are two things that I L-O-V-E doing, one, of course is to sew! The other, when I'm "flooded-in" is to make jams or jellies! Then I get to make quilted tops for my lids! It all works together! I love it when my crafts come together like that! I also enjoy embroidery, which makes really adds to my quilting!

I am IN-love with your Zig-Zag quilt!!! I have seen many that are zig-zags and I think, "mmmm pretty, but not for me..." However, YOURS!! YOURS is one I really want to do!!! Being a newbie, do you think I can handle it??? I truly LIKE the idea of picking what comes out of the dryer next!! No agonizing over which is next! GREAT idea! I also love your sight. Too wordy, I know. I apologize, you have many too read, and I know I'm too wordy to win. That's okay! I just have never "posted" to anyone before and thank you for the opportunity to tell you how awesome your sight and quilts are!!!

If I was snowed in, FIRST thing I'd do is run out and PLAY IN IT! I'd build a cute snowman, make snow angels and have a snowball fight with my DH. Then I'd get serious about SEWING, with hot cocoa in hand and a nice fire going in the fireplace. (Gas logs at our house)
Thanks for the chance to win & Happy Snow Days!!

I love to read, so a good book/magazine is required. With a nice cup of tea, please.
Baking cookies with my two kids.
And maybe a little quilting. My "sewingroom" is in the attic, so that's not the place I want to be when I'm snowed in (too cold). So it has to be a portable project I can do by hand.

I just love the colors of that jellyroll, very yummy!

HEY, were i live in Northern Alberta, Canada it gets to around -40 in the winter, so there's alot of SNOWED in, too darn cold to go out days...we (my girls and I) skype over the internet while we each quilt in our seperate homes. Then we feel like we are together without the freezing our buns off part!
    cheers

  146. if i were snowed in, it would probably be too cold to go outside (single digits or lower) so i'd curl up in the house under a quilt with my 3 cats with a mug of hot chocolate.

  148. Since I do not live in Snow Country anymore - I just have to dream about what it was like when I lived in Montana and Wyoming. I loved it when it was actually snowing enough that I didn't have to feel guilty about just sitting in my sewing room all day and quilting. Loved it!
