Give Away!!!

The drawing is now closed. Check back again for another one in the future.

Today I have spent much of my day doing grocery shopping which wasn't supposed to be much, but Hubbin and I went hungry (BIG mistake) and squaring down a gazillion and one Half Square Triangles for a new pattern I'm testing. It's a big one, it's going to be beautiful, and once it's done I promise that all of those Half Square Triangles will be so worth it. I just keep telling myself I'm channeling my inner Carrie Nelson (Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.) or Edyta Sitar (Laundry Basket Quilts). These two ladies are constantly creating quilts with tons of Half Square Triangles in them, Edyta so much that she did a book on it! Seriously, you need to check these ladies out, they're a huge influence on me and I love their quilts.

These two are just a small part of who inspires me in the quilting world and keeps my head and heart going from day to day. Other people that I really look up to and think they're worth checking out are Camille Roskelly (Thimble Blossoms), Jo Morton who's brilliant with her Civil War Reproductions (Jo Morton Quilts), Joanna Figueroa (Fig Tree & Co.), Anne Sutton (Bunny Hill Designs), and many many more! These ladies all have something different that they bring to the quilting world and they all inspire me in different ways. If you're new to quilting, I'm sure you will see these ladies featured all over and get influenced by them as well in the future.

So that's who inspires me, who inspires you? Getting to my little give away...leave me a comment on who inspires you. It could be anybody and a brief message on why. You can leave an entry through Midnight (Eastern Time) on Friday, September 3rd. That's it, leave a comment on who inspires you and you're entered. I will post the winner on Saturday, September 4th.

And what will you win? Duncan was intrigued himself when I was trying to get a snapshot for you. In this adorable little container from Moda you will get...
These! Two "Candy Bars", one of Remembrance by Brannack and Patek and one of Clermont Farms by Minick and Simpson. I will also throw in a copy of the latest pattern Candy-Coated Dreams and maybe a real candy bar or two...
That's it! I can't wait to see what comments you will leave. Oh, and getting back to the recipe segment. It's underway as well, I am planning to do it tutorial style as well with step by step pictures (just no smell-o-vision, sorry). I'm still trying to decide which recipe to make first...but stay tuned.

I have a bit of paperwork to do and then I'm off to sew for a bit before crashing for the night. Think good and hard and check back to see if you're the lucky winner!

  2. I have many designers that inspire me also!! Right now I'm working on an Eleanor Burns Patriotic block that will become a quilt top. Then there is Marti Michell and her Kaleidoscope quilts!! If I see a quilt that inspires me it doesn't matter who the designer is.

  5. Who? Well a ton of people!! Currently I am being inspired by all these blogs that I am reading. I wouldn't even touch pre-cuts until I started hopping thru blog land, and now I am working on designing a sampler using turnovers.

  8. I am inspired by my grandmother. She is 104 and has been a huge influence in my life. Even though she had a stroke and is in a nursing home she always seems to be positive. She's a true Southern lady!

  12. I'm also inspired by Carrie Nelson, but also by a myriad of book authors too numerous to mention. My quilt books have provided hours of enjoyment and inspiration, and whenever I find myself without a plan to use that newest fabric acquisition, I have lots of eye candy on my shelves. My favourite book authors and pattern designers include Karen Stone, Piece o' Cake, Judy Martin, Bonnie Hunter, Jean Wells, Laurel Burch, Marsha McCloskey, and so many others.

  13. Quilters inspire me! Whether it's life's lessons or quilting techniques I always learn from quilters. New quilters teach me to open my eyes and seasoned quilters never stop teaching. If I've had a bad day, or hit a brick wall with a project - a fellow quilter is who I'll search for.

  14. There are so many bloggers in quiltland who inspire me! It's hard to choose just one, but lately I'm all about Cherry House and her wonderful use of solids. Amazing work!

  15. Yeay! I love half square triangles. I am inspired by whomever invented/came up with the idea of pre-cuts. After a 10 year hiatus with quilting, the thought of getting back into it when I live in Ireland was daunting. I've found a quilt shop nearby (halleluia!) but being able to buy precuts has been fantastic for a sorta newbie quilter. Oh, and I admit it, I kind of have a girl crush on Joanna from Fig Tree. I love everything she does. LOL

  16. There are many who inspire me. First, my friend, cindy, who is the one to introduce me to quilting. She is my friend and quilt teacher. Also, Beth Ferrier, Jinny Beyer, Carrie Nelson, Japanese quilters, and many more (including all of you who blog- thank you). We are so blessed to have so many inspiring people in this wonderful art. Thank you for the opportunity to be in your drawing.

  17. I did not even have to think about this one...I have to say that my daughter, Paulette Stewart of Plum Street Samplers, is my inspiration. I love to see her mind at work, and it never ceases to amaze me what comes out of it, whether she be designing or cooking. What a joy she is...also bloggers! Amazing.

  18. All of the designers you named are inspiring to me as well! Also, I'm enjoying purse-making presently, so I also love the work of Paula Prass and Heather Bailey, with their larger scale designs. I found you through Moda Bake Shop, so now YOU inspire me, too! I love that site!!!

  19. I am inspired by my daughter who is an awesome quilter. I love fabrics and cannot resist buying fat quarters and remnents. Must organize my sewing room - it is getting overcrowded!

  21. I am inspired by my husband. Chessy, I know! He woodworks and made a desk shortly after we got married. I was so amazed at the process and the end result it made me take up quilting (something that always had intrigued me) when he left for a deployment overseas! What a wonderful giveway, and super cute tin!

  22. My granny inspires me, she taught me to sew, her twin tempted me to quilt and after my granny went to the big quiltshop in the sky I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, it was her strength, inspiration and her quilt she made me that got me through, got me inspired and now I have just completed my 50th quilt and love designing....inspiration is now all around me, friends, nature, advertisements, modabakeshop and other blogs...

  25. I am inspired by a lady at my church. Her name is Diane and she was the one who introduced me to quilting. She has been very patient and kind in showing me the ropes. I could barely use a rotary cutter when I started.

  26. I am inspired by fabric. Seeing such beautiful pieces of material just makes me want to make something. I love looking at quilt shops and quilt shows and at magazines. I like Bonnie Hunter, Kim Diehl, and other designers too.

  27. I have been so inspired by some of the new and modern fabrics and designers. I particularly love Amy Butler and Heather Bailey. I also can't wait to start the Subway Quilt at Oh Fransson. I love her fresh, modern style!

  28. I find so much inspiration every day reading quilting blogs and tutiorals are just great, aren't they? Besides the ones you've mentioned, I enjoy similar taste in fabric and patterns as Sherri at A Quilting Life.

  29. I'm inspired by so many people... just one example is my Grandmother. She was one of the most caring and special people I ever knew. The last thing she ever said to me was "did your father eat dinner?" here was a woman literally on her deathbed more concerned with her son in law getting a good dinner. That kind of selflessness is a real inspiration to me.

  30. All of the designers you mentioned inspire me but my greatest inspiration would be my grandmother, Etta Ellen Towel Anglin, she raised 10 children and worked a small homestead farm for 60 years and created the most beautiful hand pieced and hand quilted quilts for all her loved ones. She had 10 children, 22 grandchildren, and 53 great grandchildren at the time of her death and we all had one of her beauties.

  31. I follow lots of quilter blogs and they each inspire me, but my most favorite source of inspiration would have to be the Moda Bake Shop because it is loaded with inspiration of all kinds from so many different people. I love browsing there and getting ideas!

Lovely giveaway...candy bars (of all kinds!) are my favorite!

  33. I am inspired by giving away a quilt and watching someone get 'all cuddly and snuggly' by wrapping it around themselves. It's so motivating to make something for a special person that can not be found at the mall!

  35. I love everything and everyone who quilts - that its so difficult to pinpoint my "one true love" in quilting designs. I just found a new inspiration and that was you and your Moda Bake Shop creation. I am really excited to try it out. Looking forward to your other patterns.

  37. I am inspired by so many fabulous quilters. I have a huge long list of blogs that I check to get inspiration. (My husband can attest to how much time I spend just looking :) I think though, the person that inspires me the most would have to be my mom. Not because she is an amazing quilter (although she is pretty good) but because she encourages me constantly. She is always interested in what I am working on and has wonderful things to say about my design ideas. She is always there to lend advice when I get stumped in a layout or color combo or just can't make up my mind how I want to quilt something. She gets excited along with me when buy new fabric. My mom moved to Canada at the beginning of the year and so it has been harder to chat as frequently as we used to but that doesn't stop us from tying up the Skpe lines talking about quilts :)

  38. My little sister & my best friend inspire me. They're both creative, adventurous & truly know who they are (not to mention, they both put up with my shenanigans! :P). They both really bring out the best, the craziest, the most creative in me. :)

  39. I am inspired by Leanne Beasley of Leanne's House (Australia). I love how she makes quilting design look simple, and her quilting and stitchery designs are taken straight from nature and are so pretty.
I'm thrilled to have found your blog - can't wait to take a good look around here.

  41. The person who inspires me is Will Steger, Arctic explorer and environmentalist. He left a conventional life as a teacher to live his dreams and has traveled to the North Pole and across Antarctica by dog sled. He inspired me to try to follow my dreams, no matter how crazy or impractical other people may think they are.

  42. I am starting to get really involved with free motion quilting. Leah Day of 365 Days of Free Motion Quilting has inspired me from the first day I viewed her site. Her tutorials are first class and her voice is so soothing that any anxiety I might have just floats away. I am so glad that I found your blog and I just love your layer cake tutorial on Moda Bake Shop.

  46. My biggest inspiration for quilting comes from "Quilters"... a wonderful musical I've seen at least 4 times. It's a must see for EVERY quilter! I was just cutting apart some of my daughters' clothes to save scraps for a quilt some day and thought of it.... it's with me constantly. As for actual quilters, there are many, but I love redpepperquilts.com!-- Robin, welchrobin@hotmail.com

  51. Cathy McKillip owner of Wish Upon a Quilt inspires me because she left a corporate position to follow her passion of quilting and creating with fabric. She gives me the inspiration that I too could succeed if I decided to take the leap and do something totally fun and exciting that I enjoy on a day to day basis. Let's also not forget my mom and grandma who taught me how to sew and quilt!
